Three Muses - PhotoPlay

This is a photo of my great nephew.  Background beach scene was googled, layered and filtered a bit, palm tree was from my stash, and poetry is an excerpt from a poem by Amy Lowell.  I liked the word imagery.   Thanks for stopping by!

Sunday Postcard - Anything Goes

"Anything Goes" is the theme at Sunday Postcard this week.  I was in the mood for something pretty!  Background is from a 1700's still life, drapes Christina Renee Designs.   Thanks for your visit!

Three Muses - Mail Art

A time to sort out all the glitter and glitz, the frenzied shopping, the overspending and overeating, and take a quiet moment to think about the true meaning of the Christmas season.   May the spirit of Christmas and Hanukkah be with all my blog friends.

Digital Whisper - Gypsy Soul

My mother used to tell the story of buggy rides to the part of their farm that was river bottoms to see the gypsy encampment when it was there.  She said her father liked to horse trade with the gypsies.   So, of course I had to enter this challenge!

Three Muses - Lighthouse

There's something magical about lighthouses.   The famed radio newscaster, Walter Winchell, used to start his broadcast by saying "Mr and Mrs America, border to border, coast to coast, and to all the ships at sea, let's go to press".   All those ships at sea frequently depend on the welcome sight of a lighthouse to guide them.  This is a compilation of snapshots, and the nautical boy is credit to Kubivet, who no longer designs.

Take a Word - Winter

From my home to all my blog friends in cyberland, may your holiday season bring you peace in your heart and joy in your world!!   I've taken the liberty of using a scene from last winter.  At the moment we have no snow at all, so whether or not we'll have a white Christmas is a winter mystery!

Three Muses - Vintage gothic arch

I decided to turn my arch into a mirror on a dressing table, and spent an inordinate amount of time finding appropriate wallpaper, vase, flowers (Eena's Designs), jewelry (Alexeeva),  perfume bottles (Google) and a lovely lady image from my stash I've had for ever so long.   Thanks for your visit!

Take a Word - Mona Lisa Revisited

Mona Lisa will find herself in all sorts of new surroundings this week at Take a Word.  I've used a background of blended pieces of renaissance floral paintings, and a found violin....just in case Mona has an urge to be serenaded.  I hope someone has a bow!  Thanks for your visit.

CO - Transportation

Transportation is the challenge at Collage Obsession this week.  Image credit to Creative Commons; map overlay googled.  Slight tinting.   This lady is a bit before my time, but I could have posed in similar fashion with my first car -- a beautiful, spanking new, pristine white 1957 Ford.     Ah, those were the days.......

Three Muses - White Space

I'm becoming a fan of white space art. Maybe it's because I'm a child of the prairie and grew up in the wide open spaces!!  I traveled a good deal when I worked to a number of our large cities.  I always gave a sigh of relief when I reached the edge of the city and hit the open road.  I live in a large city, but my homes have always been on the very outskirts, so that a short drive takes me to vistas of small farms and fields of grain.  This skyline is a photo from my cousin (much tweaked, cropped and filtered), but I don't know what city it is.  Anyone recognize it?   At any rate, I had a grand time putting this together, and I hope you all have enjoyed your white space journey as well.  Thanks for stopping by.

Three Muses - Wicked

My heart flutters
My body numbs
Something wicked
This way comes....
BOO!
Seems to me Halloween has been done to a faretheewell, but I did find this moldy old witch, so I dragged her out for yet another year, and gave her a new house to haunt!

Take a Word - Masculine

I fell in love with this Portrait of Kazimierz by Stanislaw Wyspianicki .  Doesn't he look like a Dapper Dude?   I think Steinbeck wrote "Of Mice and Men" a bit after his time, but I'm sure he would have found it interesting. Thanks for indulging my fantasy!

Three Muses - Printed Word

Collage Obsession - Touch of Orange

Looks like a foggy October morning, and my Mr. Scarecrow sketch and the blackbird seem to be discussing it all.   The pumpkins provide a touch of orange!

Take a Word - Umbrella

I'm always a bit nostalgic this time of year.  It reminds me of home, harvest time, my mother's Fall displays of gourds and cornstalks, the smell of burning leaves, the sound of geese overhead making their way south, pumpkin pie,  weiner roasts, haywagon rides,  and later the many trips to the Smoky Mountains with my dear travel friends.   It's my favorite time of year.  How I wish it lasted until March!!
Credits here to Create Wings Designs.  Thank you for comments!

Three Muses - Happy

Making art is one of the things that makes me happy....along with being with family, lunch with friends, playing cards, chocolate,  autumn drives down country roads, finding little out-of-the-way cafes and antique shops,  the smell of coffee in the morning, meeting with my writing group, a good book,  chocolate, rainy days,  the fragrance of new mown grass, watching hummingbirds at my feeder,  the first snow (not the rest!), springtime,  a tidy house......and did I say chocolate?!   Can't wait to see what makes YOU happy!

This little cutie is a vintage freebie, the grunge background is mine, the roses are flown in from Google, and the frame is by B Datema at Scrapbookgraphics.   This piece was inspired by the Shades of Gray work by artist, Carol Leigh, whose work I greatly admire.   Thank you for visiting!

TAW Window

Old windows make me think in rhyme.  Thanks for humoring me!

Ancient window, weathered and old
Speaking of mystery and stories untold
I wish  you could speak of the days of yore
And tell us what happened here before
Who called it home?  Were they happy here?
Did they live in peace, and free from fear?
What activities filled their days?
Did they labor long, or have lazy ways?
You hold their secrets, I think with a sigh,
But their spirits nod as I pass by.

Three Muses - TWO

Nothing worse than showing up at the party and seeing someone else wearing your gown, especially when you've been promised yours is one of a kind.....and a colorful kind at that!   Thanks for visiting my blog.  I appreciate your comments.

Three Muses - Autumn

I'm far from ready for summer to be over, so I hope it's a long while before I see these colors in my world.  Stuff from my stash, border from B. Datema, Scrapbookgraphics, clip art scarecrow superimposed on a photo from a country outing with friends.  Nice memories!   Thanks for your visit!

Take a Word - Arch

Our challenge this week was to use an arch in our work.  This arch seemed to lend itself well to my little flower girl, whose been in my stash for some time.  I lightly tinted the black and white photo.  Don't you wonder when you see these vintage photos if children ever smiled in those days?  Everyone always looks so somber!   Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.

Three Muses - Disguise

Milady is from The Lost Gallery, the mask and frame are googled.   Paul Laurence Dunbar said it well in his poem "We Wear the Mask".....In his words (in part), "We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes.  This debt we pay to human guile; With torn and bleeding hearts we smile."....   It seems to me we are all careful to hide our true selves.  It is difficult to be truly vulnerable.  Don't you agree?  Thanks for stopping by!

Take a Word - Moon

Moon is our challenge word this week at Take A Word.   My moon is compliments of Terri Kahrs (thank you, Terri!), body is a paper doll, and other elements from Scrapbookgraphics.   I'm reminded of the song lyrics:  "I see the moon, the moon sees me The moon sees somebody I want to see.  So, God bless the moon and God bless me And God bless the 'Somebody' I want to see"
Thanks for stopping by!   I always appreciate your visits and your comments.
