Take a Word - School

School is the challenge theme this week.  Of course I think of the little one-room country school I attended, Grade 1 through 8.  (Yes, I really did!)   Our teacher had to arrive early in winter to build a fire in the pot-bellied stove that provided heat.  This is a composite collage reminiscent of those little country schools.  My aunt taught at one.  She boarded with the family of one of her students, and rode a horse to the school every day!   We children used to hope to be lucky enough to be the one chosen to take the erasers outside to clear them of chalk dust by beating them together.  Times have changed a bit!

  1. Bev you have found the perfect image for this fantastic college, had problems with my old blog as I wanted to reopen again, so I started a new one, missed creating digital collages.

  2. I love vintage school imagery (modern schools have no appeal). This is a fantastic collage- nostalgic and beautiful!

  4. A wonderful vintage collage with charming details, I don't suppose they had any smiling teachers back then at least I've never seen one...they all look like they were weaned on a pickle.

  5. Nearby there is the original country school classroom still standing, stove long gone but still the creaking floorboards and even a wall blackboard! Love your nostalgia piece, Bev!

  10. A touching and beautiful take on school days, Bev. I think I would have loved your one-room classroom. My memories are of huge classrooms packed with too many children (and angry nuns).
