Theme Thursday - Busy

My entry for Theme Thursday's challenge depicts the nearly lost art of the home seamstress. Now that most wives are working wives, there's little time for sewing; and, sadly, the cost of fabric and patterns has skyrocketed. Times, they are a-changin', and this is a somewhat nostalgic page of what used to be.

  1. Lovely piece, and so true. I love to sew, but it can get expensive. Sometimes it is not cheaper to make it yourself. I love the images.

  5. Yes, I have a cardboard box full of McCall, Simplicity and Vogue patterns, not to mention a cupboard full to overflowing with fabrics I have never managed to get around to sewing. Lovely take on the "busy" theme, Bev.

  7. This is a lovely piece Bev, and your words are so true. I remember my mom made most of my clothes when I was a youngster.

  8. Bev, this brings back tons of memories! One of my most cherished and beloved gifts from my parents was a Singer machine. I took lessons and made clothes for work and later for my kids. You're right . . . this is becoming a lost art! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  10. Bev, this is a great piece. I used to sew for myself and the kids when patterns and fabric made homemade clothing a bargain. Love your idea and how you've done this.

  11. This is lovely! My mother was a great seamstress, she could take apart someone's castoff and make a great outfit for one of her three daughters, it was a gift. Thanks for taking me down memory lane - cheers!

  12. What an absolutely gorgeous piece, Bev! It's true...now women are in the workplace, well, at least they're not doing piecework (at least, we've made strides). But this is a fantastic collage, beautiful choice of a background color. LynnF
