Mixed Media Monday - Home Sweet Home

What with all the snow scenes lately, I decided it was time for a little green! And home IS in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?
Collage background and elements from the designers of CLD; the "homeowner" is googled, and the music is from Flickr copyright free images.

Sunday Postcard - Winter Wonderland

It is great fun doing winter scenes! I could not resist putting our state bird, the cardinal, in this one. They are such beautiful touches of red in the winter when all the world is white. My background, slightly altered, is from a photo by Allon Kira. I've added the light and the fence from Jen U Designs, and Flickr copyright-free images provided the couple. Digital collage is exactly like cut and paste collage, except the supplies are easier to store! Thanks for looking.
***YIKES! I just realized I made this a 4x4 instead of a postcard. Brain blip! Too late to change it now. Mea culpa!

Gothic Arches - Snow

Winter is showing up at all the challenges, and it's expected to show up here in my world tonight with our first snow. I thank April Mouse for the border for my arch, the street scene is googled, and I "built" the snowman. Thanks for looking!

Art Creations - Background

For this week's challenge at Art Creations, we were given a luscious background to use for our artistic impression. I chose an overlay of a village scene, added some red bows and a Christmas tree for this "silent night" theme. Since we're predicted to have our first snowfall tomorrow night, it seemed timely.

Make a Moo or Two - Monkey

Make a Moo or Two chose monkeys for their topic this week, a challenge for sure. This fellow looks as if he's thinking about the holidaze, so I put him in my window!

Theme Thursday - Santa

Today is Thanksgiving Day (if you're in the U.S.), and in the blink of an eye Santa will be making his rounds. This Santa is one I sketched on pine, cut out with band saw, and painted with oils. He's on my mantel right now. I "lifted" him from his photograph, however, because this beautiful little cottage seemed just right for him to stop by, don't you think? Thanks for looking, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Daily Art Stop - Mermaid

This was a stretch for me. The background is digitally painted, filtered and tweaked, and embellished with bits and pieces from Jofia Devoe, Kubivet, and Google. I think Picasso is safe!

Artygirlz - Color Challenge

Something in my favorite colors? It'd have to be shades of blue! And just to make it timely (oh, I'm so clever), I tried to capture time in a bottle, which is what we'd all like to do in the busy holidaze. Thanks for the challenge, Artygirlz, and thanks for looking!

Crazy Amigo Challenge - Hands

Hands are the challenge topic at Crazy Amigos this week. This collage includes an image from Art-E-Zine, background and alpha from Kubivet, and the photo of the hands cradling the infant I've had for a very long time. They hold a miracle in a very small package, do they not?

SPACE - THE LAST FRONTIER

I belong to a small group of women with an affinity for the written word. At our monthly meeting, we draw a topic card as a challenge for the next meeting. Recently, our topic card was simply a photo of two astronauts. I occasionally lapse into rhyme, and sometimes have a devilish urge for some tongue-in-cheek fun. Such was the case with our space topic, with the following result.

***
In these days of tribulation, you gotta wonder why
We need to look for more, by exploring our sky.
We dress up our heroes in spacesuits slick as a whistle,
Give them a flag, and send them off in a missile.
If there are aliens out there, they probably have seen us
From their vantage point on the planet of Venus,
Or perhaps from Jupiter, in their own space cars
When they’re off with their family for a trip to Mars.
Stopping by Mercury or lunch on the moon,
Passing by Earth, they‘ll head on to Neptune.
Enjoying the cosmos and its glorious pattern
They‘ll take a left turn so the kids can see Saturn..
Circling the sun, they’ll send a message to pain us
“When we get there”, they’ll say, “we’ll study Uranus.”
***
,,,,,,as I said, the Devil made me do it ....

Gothic Arches - Celebration

If you're a turkey in the U.S. you know it's the time to celebrate Thanksgiving, and you hope you're not invited to dinner!! Happy Birthday to our hostess, and happy autumnal season to all my blogfriends in other countries, but this week my family and I will be celebrating the day the Pilgrims landed.

Sunday Postcard - Joker

While trolling the net, I came across this coquettish lady joker. I think she has inside information on some unlucky guy ... she's looking awfully smug!
Background and butterfly Tangie Baxter, and flowers CR Designs.

Art Creations

A new challenge blog has been started at Art Creations. We're given the image for our individual interpretation. This lovely, pensive lady would grace any endeavor, would she not??
The frame is by K.Eflin/R.Davis (altered).

Make a Moo or Two - Pets

I had a little fun with this one. Aside from George Clooney, not too many people have pet pigs. It seems worth a book, don't you think? Image courtesy of Art-E-Zine.

Simply Skinnies - Thanks

It's great to remind us of that for which we're grateful. I'm grateful for my life of abundance, for family and friends....and for those blessings I've yet to receive.

Theme Thursday - Old West

The "Old West" theme makes me think of saloons and shootouts, outlaws and good guys! With a collection of "stuff" from Kuvivet, a window frame from Jen U Designs, a googled wanted poster, and a Flickr copyright free cowboy, it looks like the bounty hunter is ready to go a-huntin for a bad guy!

Daily Art Stop - Friends

Diana has invited me to join in the fun at Daily Art Stop where weekly Wednesday challenges will be part of an exciting new site which includes recipes, tips, crafts and pleasant surprises. Thanks, Diana, here's my interpretation of the challenge "friends". The image is from the ever so generous Vintage Stamper, background and other "goodies" are from Irene Alexeeva.

Crazy Amigos - Moon

Crazy Amigos this week have decided to fly us to the moon. With the help of Lorie Davison's papers, I've created my own little fantasy. No passport required!

Artygirlz - Quote

There's nothing like a good quote! I chose one by Tallulah Bankhead that's a bit tongue-in-cheek. Thanks for the challenge, Artygirlz!
The background is by Irene Alexeeva, the image from an old magazine cover.

Think Monday, Think ATC - Food

Well, cat's eat too! Lots of ways to go with this topic, but this sweet child feeding her kitten (from Art-E-Zine) said "Dinnertime!" to me. Flowers are from Lorie Davison.

Mixed Media Monday -Christmas

These old world Santas grace my mantel each Christmas. I sketched them from photos in a magazine onto 1-inch pine, cut them out with a band saw, sanded, and painted them with oil paints, then sanded them again for an aged effect. They stand about 10 inches tall. They are my favorite Christmas decorations. I photographed them for this challenge, and then put the photo in a frame for display here. Thanks for looking

Gothic Arches - Silhouette

I was a chubby child, not exactly fleet of foot, but in my dreams I was tall and slim with the grace of a gazelle. This silhouette illustrates the "me" of my dream --- then and now, I might add!
Arch is from the ever-talented and generous Kubivet and the background is by Jofia Devoe. I cannot remember where I acquired the image of the dancer, or I'd pay credit where credit is due!

Sunday Postcard - Hats

Straw hats were a must in the Illinois summers. In this rather fuzzy old photo (sorry about that!), my friend, Kenly, and I are on the way to the field with thermoses of cold water from the well in the front yard, taking a much-needed drink to the men who were baling hay. Our make-shift wagon is pulled by his trusty old mule, Kate. In the background is the one-room school we attended, Grades 1 through 8, before we went to the high school in town (population 650) where our class of 36 was the largest ever to graduate. There would have been a small flag with a blue star in the window of our house, as my brother was in the Army and WW-II was not yet ended. (Click on the photo for enlarged view).

Make a Moo or Two - Firsts

This is all about firsts.....the first time I've used this delightful freebie from Suzan Buckner, who is both generous and talented. The background is also a freebie from The Vintage Moth, and this is the first time I've used it.

Theme Thursday - Birds

I swear, my mother's favorite bird was a chicken! Aside from helping my father on the farm, she had her own little egg business on the side, for which she kept a separate bank account and separate books! She was feisty and independent. The news clipping is an actual clipping that appeared in the paper many years ago describing our farm. Thanks for allowing me a trip down memory lane! I should add that the images are freebies from the Vintage Moth, and the egg basket is googled.

Simply Skinnies - Travel

Simply Skinnies features air travel this week. I had a bit of fun collecting bits and pieces for a collage of air travel through the years, thanks to Flickr copyright free images. We've come a long way bay-bee!

Frameworthy ala Miaa-Mi

The featured artist this week at SBG is Miaa-Mi whose body of work includes some surreal pieces that inspired this flight of fantasy. Don't ask me where my head went when I put this together, but it was a pleasant trip! My thanks to Stock Photo's Ilco, Gun4hire, Abyla and Zabroda for bits and pieces of their photos. I drew the face.

Mixed Media Monday - Hands

My choice for the Mixed Media Monday challenge is hands. These are the clasped hands of my parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. I need not say more.
The soft and lovely background paper is by Lorie Davison at SBG.
Thank you for looking.

Just "Charming" Swap!

I promised Lianna of Llama Tales I'd post a photo of charms I received and/or made in a charm swap with a local art group. Here they are, Lianna. It was such fun!

Gothic Arches - Buttons

I'm convinced this "crafty lady" was a seamstress, and had too many blue buttons left over! Her hat looks fur-trimmed, but surely not, with her summery yellow dress. So, there she is in all her glory, clutching her bouquet of (you guessed it) red flowers. There's no accounting for taste!!
Button frame courtesy of Irene Alexeeva, laboriously digitally cross-stitched by moi. The lady is from Art-E-Zine.

Sunday Postcard Art - Italy

The ladies of Sunday Postcard Art have chosen Italy for this week's topic. When I close my eyes and think of Italy, this is what I see in my mind's eye. There has to be music. My Italian friends have such joi de vivre ! And, ah, to see Tuscany just one time.....

Step Outside Your Box Saturday - Monochromatic

This is my first time to do the challenge from Step Outside Your Box Saturday. The challenge this week is to create a monochromatic piece. I chose shades of gold. Thanks for the challenge!
Credit to the very talented Irene Alexeeva for the components of this piece.

Make a Moo or Two - Paris

This digital collage comes from several sources,--Carol Baumann for the background; Mar Bleis for the word art, stamp and letter; and Art-E-Zine for the image. The joy of digital collage is that you don't have stacks of paper everywhere, and all the clutter is on your hard drive!
Thanks to the "Moo People" for the challenge!

Theme Thursday - Happiness

There is no happiness as untainted as that of a baby. Their innocent expression of joy brings a smile to us all, and renews our vow to make their world a safe place to be.
The poppy is from Natali Designs, and the photo was sent to me long ago by a friend.

*** HOPE ***

As a young woman, I ventured from my sheltered Illinois farm upbringing to Miami, Florida. I still remember my shock at seeing water fountains marked “Colored Only”, and my indignation at seeing weary little old black ladies standing in the back of a bus when there were empty seats at the front. I remember Selma, marches and riots, and the man who had a dream. I remember the fierce patriotism of a nation united during World War II. Yesterday, I saw history made in the United States of America. I saw thousands of faces in Grant Park in Chicago, a microcosm of who we are, waving small flags and cheering the man who brings us hope of a better day, hope of a united people, hope of our young men coming home, hope of restoring our good name in the community of nations, and hope of restoring financial and physical security. May God smile on the journey of this young man with a dream.

Simply Skinnies

Carole over at Simply Skinnies has chosen "Hearth and Home" for her topic this week. In youth, we plan eagerly to stretch our wings and explore far places. If we're lucky we know always there is that one safe place to which we can return and know that we are loved....Home.

Artygirlz - Drawing

The challenge at Artygirlz is to use some hand drawing....so I helped the would-be pilot jot a note to his friend, Bill, using my pen tablet. Don't you love that haircut? I found him in the Museum of Found Photographs, and I loved him the minute I saw him!
The photo corners are courtesy of Kubivet. Thanks for looking!

**** VOTE ****

When my mother was born, women could not vote. She was 13 when the 19th Amendment was ratified. She took her privilege seriously, and in my memory never missed an election. no matter that my father dutifully cancelled her vote every time, which made for some spirited discussions in our house! Great sacrifices were made to assure our right to vote. We should not take them lightly.

Think Monday, Think ATC - Angels

The TMTA challenge has us amongst the angels this Monday morning. What a world it would be if we all had the philosophy of angels! Maybe we could start practicing it right now!

Mixed Media Monday - Autumn

This little lady, found on an old magazine cover, looked as if she belonged on a page of autumn hues. I love the colors of autumn. They make me think of pumpkin spices, crisp nights, hayrides, overhead V's of geese, raking leaves, harvest time, scarecrows and chrysanthemums! Absolutely the very best time of year!

Gothic Arches - Vintage Children

"Vintage children" is the topic this week for Gothic Arches. I think these little guys grew up to be great friends, and the feisty one on the right looked after his bashful brother their whole lives long!
Frame: CR Designs, boys from the wonderful images at Art-E-Zine, and the background was googled.

Sunday Postcard - Movies

Thanks, Sunday Postcard, this was great fun putting together, and remembering some movie greats through the years.
