Three Muses - Ancestor

In my mother's later years, she gave me her grandmother's photo album.  It was one of those wonderful  old leather albums with windowed pages meant to hold cabinet card photos.  By the time she gave it to me the pages were tattered and only a few photographs remained, none of which were identified.  The young man above was one of those.  I like his earnest expression and his square jaw.  The photo was taken in Ohio.  So, here is my ancestor.  I don't know who he is, but we share DNA.   The benevolent face in the mists behind the family record is that of my grandmother.   I wish she had written his name on the back of his photo!

  2. How could you not wonder about the handsome young man with the square jaw? Bev, your ancestors piece is superb and touching. I love the design and the vibrant colours. The misty image of your grandmother in the background is the perfect touch. I can see a real family likeness to you and Lori. Fantastic artwork.

  3. What a handsome young man, Bev, love how you have incorporated your Grandmother with your family record - your piece is a real treasure!
Thank you, Bev, for choosing Ancestors, I can see myself creating more 'journal pages' with other grand parents.

  4. Your collage is gorgeous Bev...but your story breaks my heart. I have a few picture like that..it's just so sad to me to have a picture of someone who is part of me and not know who they are.
This was a wonderful challenge I have so enjoyed all the beautiful stories and pictures...Thank you.

  5. Very handsome man, Bev. More intriguing without a name. We can create our own stories for his life this way (smile). But, I see your grandmother hovering in the background so I guess we better no get too imaginative....lol Your layout is wonderful, such a beautiful setting.

jolie présentation avec votre grand-mère en transparence !
Je pense que nous avons tous un tas de photos d'inconnus dans nos boites et albums de photos de famille ... Inconnus de nous pour toujours... pas de noms pas de dates ,et c'est bien dommage!

  8. I've got a few pictures like that, Bev, and it is frustrating not knowing who they are but knowing it is an ancestor!
Anyway, you have done your ancestor justice giving him such a wonderful background!

  9. Beautiful work, as always, Bev. I, too, received a tattered album recently from my Mom. I really don't know many of the people in it, and she doesn't remember. Nothing is marked, but the album is a wonderful treasury. Hugs, Terri xoxo

  13. Fantastic and your photo is in such great shape! My mother, in her last years, tried to label photos but there were some that she didn't know about so I also have some wonderful vintage ancestor pix but have no idea who they are.
