Take a Word - Sewing

I learned to sew on my aunt's Singer treadle machine.   The harder you pedalled the faster you sewed!   That old Singer probably STILL works.  They never seemed to wear out.

  1. I too learned to sew on a Singer treadle, Bev. I still have it stored away waiting for the time when I stop procrastinating to find someone skilled enough to restore the machine and its cabinet and drawers to their former majesty.
I love your collage, especially the way you have used a zipper to divide it into two sections. INSPIRED!! Great work.

  2. I too love the zipper division in this it is extraordinary and I love reading your memories. My Grandma had a treadle machine but it was destroyed when her house caught fire. Luckily the fire was confined to two rooms but her sewing machine is one of the things I mourn the loss of.

  3. Wow! You sure brought back a flood of memories for me with your mention of the old Singer treadle machine, Bev! My Grandmother taught me how to sew on her treadle. I still remember sewing on small pieces of blue & white pillow ticking with black thread, and the fact that my feet didn't quite reach the "large pedal"! Fond memories, indeed!!! ♥ Needless to say, your piece is fantastic! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  4. Unique and oh so creative! This is wonderful! I loved sitting at my gram's Singer...I always imagined treasures in the drawers and dug through them whenever gram wasn't looking! Thanks for the memories! And Bravo on your art!

  7. This is great - so clever!!! I have an old treadle machine which an old Aunt gave me - I believe it still works although I've never tried it - I just love the "look" of it in the ornate wood stand!

  14. Oh oh. My wife, who is 10 years younger than me, says those are valuable antiques. I have a feeling you must be a little older than me. It must have been a challenge to sew a zipper on one. Great collage!
