Take a Word - Vintage

I grew up near a sleepy little town in Illinois called Pontiac.  It's only claim to fame is that it sits beside the famed Route 66.   From the 1930's to the 1980's, before it was replaced by interstate highways, Route 66 was a heavily-traveled highway from Chicago to Los Angeles.  Along the way, there were quaint little Mom and Pop motels, and it wound its way through small towns that were the fabric of America.   Many a young man in the midwest, like the one above, dreamed of having his own car, and driving all the way to the Pacific ocean!  It seemed a world away in those days.   Portions of old Route 66 are still in use, and called Scenic Byways.   A portion of it still runs by Pontiac, and a couple of years ago a traveling group of muralists painted murals on a few of the downtown buildings.   One of those murals is a part of the collage above.   Thanks for sharing this bit of nostalgia!   If you'd like to see more of the murals, you can find them here:

Art Creations Friday 1-28

Blue is one of my favorite colors, so this was a joy to work with. Women were so delightfully feminine in those days, weren't they?.....delicate flowers to be pampered and protected.  Whatever happened to those days ???    (Smile)     Thanks for stopping by!

Three Muses - Fashion

I love the bold colors of African fashion.   One of my mail art pieces done in Nick Bantock style seemed an appropriate background.    Great challenge, Ann!

Take A Word - Botanical

How nice to think of things green and growing in the midst of all this snow and COLD (brrrr!).   The background for this piece is a generous freebie from Astrid McLean, the printed materials and flower are from Flickr Collage Images.    Thank you, Sadie, for the beautiful example at Take A Word,  thank you, Marie, for providing the challenge,  and thanks, blog friends, for stopping by for a visit!

Sunday Postcard - Pencil

When I was about 12, I had a diary.   I filled it with all my young hopes and dreams, flights and fancies....for a while... then it was put aside.   I have no idea what happened to that diary, but this week's challenge at SPA made me think of it.    Thanks for the memory!   **** I just realized this is Friday, not Saturday, and I've posted this VERY early.  What can I say?  The days all run together in snow after snow after snow!!

For my artist, I chose the contemporary artist, Eduard Recife .   Among his work are pieces with a quirky, grungy approach on vintage images.    I find it great fun to do a "Recifean" collage.   Thanks for stopping by.

Take A Word - Butterflies

I've used one of my favorite images from Art-E-Zine, given her an arm and a hand, a background by Lorie Davison (Scrapbook Graphics) and a floral spray from OScraps.    Thanks for the challenge, Marie!

Three Muses - Natures Creatures

I've always dreamed of going on safari in Africa, but alas I've come to understand the closest I'll get is an episode of the TV show "Jack Hanna and His Wild Adventures"!   Nonetheless, I'm in awe of the majesty of  God's creatures.

Take a Word - Beauty

This beauty is from a vintage magazine cover.   I love the shape of her lips and the cleft in her chin!  I think she has a pensive, mysterious look.   Maybe she's just wondering what she was thinking when she bought that hat!!   Thanks for stopping by.

Three Muses - Old Fashioned

Old-fashioned says vintage to me.   When I look back in time in my life, it's a kaleidoscope of colors and images, and that's what I've tried to depict in this piece.    Thank you for stopping by!

Take a Word - Zetti

My house guests left today, and  I took a quick minute to zettify.    Looks as if my zettilady has been in the bubbly, but it doesn't seem to have made her happy!   Best wishes to all of you for 2011  !

Sunday Postcard - Celestial

Thanks for an interesting challenge!   I still have house guests, so I'm posting this quickly and will be back this evening to see everyone's work and leave comments.   The background here is from the Hubble Site, which has some lovely celestial views!   Thanks for stopping by!
