Three Muses - Eyes

The minute I saw Ann's theme was "Eyes" this photo came immediately to mind. The eyes of this young Afghan girl, (who appeared on the cover of National Geographic a few years ago) are the most riveting I've ever seen. The dove at the upper right is a symbol of the elusive peace, which, please God, one day this young woman will know. The background and headline are compliments of Google. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. The eyes are amazing, Bev. Beautiful but sad - and terrified too. I love the idea of the dove of peace. Your background is wonderful.
Australia has a small contingent of commandos and regular soldiers in Afghanistan and this week 5 were killed with others who were seriously injured not likely to survive. As in the Middle East, centuries of turmoil are never going to be solved no matter hard hard other nations try.

  5. I remember her, my husband and I often comment on her unforgettable eyes. We saw a documentary a few years ago by the photographer who searched her out again. She was grown and married with too many children. Beneath all that strife and turmoil etched on her face you could still see her beautiful eyes.

  21. Have you read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns?' - it follows the story of two Afghan women through the Russian invasion and the Taliban. It's one of those books that you don't enjoy but need to read - to understand. It makes you feel so humble and grateful for what we have. This is a powerful piece.
