'BLACKBIRD SINGING IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT" is the beginning of a well-known Beatles song. Actually, when Paul McCartney wrote this song, it had nothing whatsoever to do with blackbirds. It was inspired by Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement in the U.S. In England, black women were often referred to as black birds, hence the title. With this in mind, it gives the lyrics an entirely new interpretation.
A touching and beautiful take on the theme, Bev. I had no idea that the Beatles' song was inspired by Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement. Superb.
