Mixed Media Monday - Mardi Gras

I'm afraid I "waxed philosophical" with this one. Mardi Gras makes me think of the French Quarter, and one can't think of New Orleans without thinking of Katrina, or the New Orleans Saints who recently won the SuperBowl. I tried to suggest the city rising again to overcome the devastation of Katrina. The words are part of the lyrics from the 1960's song "The City of New Orleans". Thanks for a great challenge, and thank you, blog visitors, for your comments.

  4. Oh Bev~
This is a fantastic piece you have here. I have a huge lump in my throat... you have summed NOLA up very well, Katrina is still effecting many in this great city. And the Superbowl, is kind of, a re-birth. And even the 1st year after Katrina, NOLA celebrated Mardi Gras...because that is the kind of people who live here. So well done and bravo to you!

  15. Bev, this is fantastic! It's funny, but even I, here in Oz, was happy to see that the Saints won the Superbowl, knowing what a great morale booster it would be for New Orleans. You have expressed all of that so well! Diane

  16. Bev, you have outdone yourself here. I gave up on the Mardi Gras theme but you have given it a completely different look. Your collage is beautifully designed and very touching. The only thing that is getting up my nose is the song!! I know it, I know the tune, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called. I do have delayed brain reaction so it will probably come to me during the day.

It is so good to see you back at the keyboard!! No doubt your updated and now virus-free computer will inspire you to great things.

  19. I love that old folk song--City of New Orleans--love the bit of quote you used for the piece. I cheered long and loud when the Saints came marching back--what a triumph over circumstance their win this year was. Love the "thoughtfulness' of this art work.
