My grandmother's hands were never still when she was sitting in her rocker. It seemed she was always sewing strips of rags together to be made into rag rugs; piecing together bits of fabric that later became quilts, comforters or pillow tops; darning grandpa's socks, mending or sewing on buttons. This silhouette made me think of grandma, and the skill of those busy hands.
Bev, this is gorgeous! I love the silhouette approach contrasted with the bright sewing supplies. There is a lot of nostalgie in this for me too. My mother had to be hard at work, even when "relaxing" which was sitting in her armchair. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBev,what a lovely thought to honor your grandmother in this way. The silhouette gives it a refreshing look!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. Will I be as special to my grandchildren as my grandmother was to me? Your grandmother sounds like mine and it sounds as if you loved her and everything she did as I did mine. This is a lovely piece and the sentiment makes it all the lovelier!
