THREE MUSES - Keys

When I was a child, I took piano lessons for a year or two.   I occasionally played piano in our little country church.  It's been many, many years since I've touched the keys and I hardly remember how to play.   I have fond memories of that time, however, and the little country church which was a hub of social activities in our very rural area of middle Illinois.    The ladies of the church sponsored an annual chicken dinner that was renowned in the area, and very well attended.  I have fond memories of the fried chicken too!    Sadly, little country churches, windmills, lovely old barns and one-room schools are disappearing from our countryside.

  4. An exquisite collage with a story to match...just beautiful Bev. It's nice to know that someone else misses the little things that are no longer part of our lives.

I wish all of those wonderful things could find caretakers…
Someone to usher them all the way through the next one hundred years…

  7. I just love creations that tell a story...it is so important to the integrity of the piece. Being from rural Ohio, I can certainly relate to the plight of little churches, humble pianos and fried chicken dinners. Thank you for taking me back there in such a beautiful and creative way!

  8. This is just such a tender piece, Bev. Lyrical and sweet! I love Eric Sloane's books on barns, and you are right, soon they'll be gone. It's wonderful to capture memories in our art. Wonderful work!

One of your best! I love the memories to go with. As we grow older and the world changes, not always for the better, we all have tender memories like this. Long may they live.xx

  19. I love your stories of country life. They are so full of warmth and love and friendship and simplicity. I am willing to bet there are days when you yearn for them again. Bev, your picture and the story behind it are wonderful. I keep going back to the picture where I find things that I missed on the first and subsequent viewings. It is beautifully and lovingly crafted and it is GREAT work.
